Late in his life, master Impressionist Claude Monet became captivated by the pond in his gardens at Giverny. He painted over 250 studies of the Japanese-style bridge arching over the water, and the water lilies floating on the glimmering water below. These paintings have become some of his most beloved work, and in the 1920s, the Musée de L'Orangerie in Paris built an oval room to permanently house eight large scale water lily murals. Visitors to the Water Lily room are completely surrounded by the peaceful flowers, as Monet was in his garden.
