The fine art design features "Pansies in Washington", painted by Alma Thomas in 1969. Thomas began her art practice in earnest after retiring from a 35 year career as a middle school art teacher, and became the first African American woman to have a solo exhibition at the Whitney Museum of American Art. Her trademark dashes of color and concentric circles create a cheerful yet powerful effect that deepens the longer you look.
